The Most Useful Free Software

Most decent software nowadays comes with a pretty hefty price. From word processors to the best malware protection programs, it can, and is all sold for a premium price. What a lot of people don’t know is that there are thousands of free software applications that can complete the same task, with some of the free alternatives actually performing better than the paid versions.

The biggest piece of software that anyone will have on their computer is an operating system such as Windows 7 or Windows 8. However there are free operating systems that you can replace windows with, a lot are not really user friendly (for the basic user), but there are a few that are. The best and most popular is Linux Ubuntu, with less code and more point and click it is definitely a good choice for the basic user who does not want to pay for an operating system.

Open Office is a collection of software with a word processor, spread sheet, presentation creator, drawing tool, database creator and a math program. It is intended as an alternative to Microsoft Office and contains pretty much everything they have. All the programs are fully equipped with all the tools you will need when in business or just simply creating a document that needs to look professional. The actual layout of the software is quite similar to that of MS Office so anyone who has used one, will be at home with the other.

There are a number of free malware protection programs and firewalls, some of the best malware protection being AVG, Avira and Avast. Two good firewalls are Comodo personal and Zone Alarm. Don’t worry and think that you will be getting lesser protection because they are free, in fact a lot of the free software detects and removes more threats than a lot of paid software. According to a test completed by AV-Comparatives, Avira scored the highest (out of free versions) for a real life protection test.

Paint.Net is a fantastic image editor and paint tool. It offers a massive range of features and can perform pretty much any task Photoshop or any other premium software can. I have used this software for years and it is one of my favorites. Great for the average user who isn’t completing professional image editing work.

There it is, some of the best and most useful free software available, the list could go on forever as there is so much stuff out there. If you have a task, do a Google search and there will more than likely be a free program to help you.
